Local 4 offers apprenticeships in plumbing, pipefitting, and HVAC tech. Apprenticeships take five years to complete through classroom and shop training at night, and on the job training during the day. In addition to plumbing, pipefitting, and HVAC instruction, all apprentices receive training in welding.

If you are interested in applying for our apprenticeship program, please download the application below, complete and return it to Info@UALocal4.com or mail to/drop off at Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 4, 150 Hartwell Street, West Boylston, MA 01583. If you are unable to download it, you may come in person Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and you will be provided an application. Please make sure your application is legible. You must have a valid email address to apply. Once we have processed your application, you will receive an invitation by email to take the computer-based trade knowledge assessment exams at Local 4. There is a non-refundable $25 administrative fee to take these exams. (We only accept money orders or treasurer/cashier’s checks. We do not accept personal checks, cash or credit cards.) The assessment process can take up to two hours. The results of the assessments will be held on file by Local 4 until the next time the program opens. We anticipate the next opening will be around April/May 2025. At that point, based on individual results, you may be notified of a date and time for an interview. DownloadBeginning January 1, 2025, enforcement will begin on the three-year renewal requirement of the Hot Work certification. This means when reporting to a jobsite, the date of issue of your hot work certification must be within the past three years or it is considered expired. Any cert issued before January 1, 2022, will need to be renewed. Link below will bring you to the NFPA website where you can register to take the class.
